Today is a birthday kind of day!

My favorite and most sweetest daddy is having his birthday.  Love you dad.

We got him an ipod shuffle because he enjoyed mine so much on our trip to Missouri.  Bailey helped me load up all his cds on it and I know he’s going to really love it!

Today is also Izzy’s teacher Melanie’s birthday!!!

Melanie had a procedure done on her shoulder Monday and is out this week getting better (and we miss her!!!).

Happy Birthday Melanie!!!!  Hope it’s a WONDERFUL day!

It’s been busy as usual around here… Izzy had been wearing her afos at night so well but yesterday a spot showed up so we are proceeding with caution and keeping them off a few days… she’s getting over a cold/flu (same one I had last week and has the cough that doesn’t want to leave me). I have to play catch up on posts like this one for a diet pill review.

Bailey and Emelia are busy, keeping up with school work etc.  They both enjoyed the fair.  I think they enjoyed the food more than anything, but isn’t that what the fair is all about?

Amanda is stressed.  She spent the night here Saturday.

I guess that’s about it!  Happy Wednesday!

last days of summer.

It’s been a fun & busy week.  Wednesday my friend Melody took me to lunch at the Paseo Grill.

They had tons of vegan choices (well… fourish).  I had pasta with veggies and it was delish.  We shared some fried green beans too.  She gave me a card welcoming me to the “club.”  I said, “No thanks :).”  She also gave me some fun things like this book…

and a shape magazine.  I told her I thought she was trying to tell me something :)… she said she just knew I was on a health kick lately.

I worked Tuesday and Thursday, but driving home both days I stopped off at the Edmond Walmart who happened to have some morningstar products our local walmart doesn’t carry.  I had to get one of each to try.  They had mushroom burgers, italian herb chicken patties, and asian burgers.  We really liked all of these.  They are all vegan.  Matt liked the asian patties best.  There is a recipe for spring rolls using them I imagine I’ll try soon.  The italian chicken patties were good on buns with marinara.  We had the mushroom burgers on french bread with sliced avocados.  Yum!

Today started early with a trip to Kohl’s for Emelia.  We had some Kohl’s cash and coupons mixed with tax free weekend… She got three jeans, six tops, and a belt for $60.  Pretty good deal huh?  Afterwards we stopped at Rue21 and Bailey got a new belt.  He is so thin he almost has to wear a belt just to keep his jeans up.  Poor kid 😛 …

The next stop was my brother’s office at the department of public safety for Bailey’s learner’s permit.  He was able to take the test there and barely passed.  He did pass so that’s all that counts and I wouldn’t have known the shape of the railroad signs either.  We all had to go celebrate the permit with Falcone’s pizza afterwards.  Mike and Bailey chose the restaurant.   (I had to snap a pic with my phone of his first attempt to drive).

I came home to feed Isabelle lunch and then had to run errands with Amanda.  Her car had a low tire so we took it to have it checked and the tire shop was running behind.  We walked to the auto parts store and bought windshield wiper blades (which she has been needing to replace) and put them on all by ourselves.  I was so proud.  I have always had the guy at the auto store do it for me, but since we had walked there rather than drive…  They were still working on the tire so we went in a local diner called, “Harley’s,” which we had never been into and had a coke and snack.  It was fun and spontaneous just to walk around and do whatever we wanted.  We went to get her license renewed after they finished looking at her tire and then picked up her pictures at CVS. We didn’t go to Circuit City.  It was a fun afternoon!

And look what was delivered when I got home…

Pretty flowers from my friend Jacki.  So sweet of her!

I’ve also been getting the strangest cards from Tulsa, OK.  One had been signed “Happy Birthday,” one was signed “Matt P.”  I’m on to you John Tiefenthaler!!!!!

Tomorrow is slip and slide at church.  Giving away like 500 backpacks full of school supplies to the kids in our community.  After that we’ll be getting packed up for our trip to Missouri.  I’m taking the kids to Roaring River and am very excited to get away for my dreaded birthday.

On the strike front (AT&T), district 4 settled on a contract today at 5 p.m.  This is a good sign!  Matt wasn’t thrilled because they settled but I am very glad and will be happy to be off strike watch.  Hopefully district 6 will settle soon as well.  I saw the reports of a slight decrease in unemployment rates this morning.  It was like a tenth of a point, but in true Pollyanna fashion I just have to say I’m glad it went down instead of up!

to camilla. our favorite p.t.

Happy Birthday Camilla!

Annie, Amanda & Isabelle

birthday weekend.

Saturday, August 1st, 2009

Paula’s (Matt’s mother) birthday is July 25.  Isabelle’s is July 26. Amanda’s is July 28.  Mine is August 9th.  So we always do a birthday celebration here around the end of July or first of August.  Some traditions stay the same… like:

School shoe shopping!  Emelia called Kohls to see what time they would be closing Friday evening.  When she heard 11 p.m. she was determined we go late.  I suggested we take Jane Ellen’s cool convertible for fun.  Here are the three girls in the back getting really wind blown!  (I was driving … and taking pics 🙂 ).

Here we are very wind blown when we arrived at Kohls (after 10 p.m.)!

Emelia was unusually picky about shoes.  She had piles around her that were just not what she liked…

We drove away at 11:05 with four pairs of shoes (Melanie: Izzy’s little nikes have orange and she loved them 🙂 …)

John’s artichoke heart/sun dried tomato/greek olive pasta.  My favorite!  He makes it every year for my birthday and I love it.  Happily there are leftovers hidden tucked away in the fridge for later.  If I am ever  hungry again!  I’ll have to start a diet (JUST KIDDING) after this weekend with so much good food.  Maybe I can find the best weight loss pills. Doubt it 🙂 …

Funny card exchange.

Sitting at the dining table reminiscing about marmar.

Mom’s cinnamon rolls for breakfast, nicknamed nini crack.  Yummo.

Matt and John napping while the golf channel plays on the television.

Trying to remember just how many pots of coffee Matt and Paula drank.

Trips to the dollar store for silly stuff like matching sunglasses for the girls and Jane Ellen.

On another note.  Look what mom brought me.

I had a collection of crosses on this wall for forever!  I thought it would be a nice change and I love it.

I’m off to snuggle iz and nap off the pasta!

happy 7th bday izzy.

Today Izzy is seven years old.

She is growing so tall and weighs 58 pounds!

We are celebrating with ice cream cake from Baskin Robbins!

Some presents she recieved for her birthday …

Hanna Andersson outfits from Gram, Jane Ellen, and Jane Ann. Junie B. Jones books from Melanie & Camilla. Various toys and dvds. A princess pillow from Nini. Fun stuff like bath products and a crown from Sarai & Katie.  I am going to redo her room when we do the big room shift.  We are planning a princess room.  With Amanda leaving for OU soon she is giving up her bigger room to Bailey and the smaller room will be her room when she is home for the weekends and also have some of Izzy’s things in it.  Izzy sleeps in our room right now so it should work out fine.

It was a fun birthday!

birthing and birthdays…

Monday, August 11th, 2008

I always say (when the kids have birthdays) that I should be getting a present since it was such a painful day in my life LOL! So today when I went to my parent’s house to go to lunch, and was given my birthday present, I gave mom a present too. I told her happy birthday and that it was her day too since she birthed me years ago. I think I’m going to do this every year. I don’t think it’s about giving a big gift, just acknowledging the day for the mother too. Us moms remember those days of birth so clearly.

Mom mom gave me something on my wish list. The shark sweeper! I have been considering buying one for a while and am excited to use it.

Well, there are eleven whole minutes left of my birthday…. so I guess I’m heading to bed. Goodnight.

It’s been a wonderful birthday! I spent the day doing things I wanted to do… I went to the slip n slide at church just long enough… then went to mom & dad’s house and me and mom went to Sante Fe to have lunch. It was empty, quiet, and delicious. When the waiter asked if we wanted dessert mom said, “do you want dessert since it’s your birthday?” and I said, “no. I’m full.” So we paid and were leaving, mom stopped off at the bathroom and I stood outside to see the entire wait staff going around the corner where we were sitting singing “happy birthday.” I kinda hid behind the wall and snickered. Glad I escaped :)… but the waiter saw me afterward and wrapped up my cute little dessert for me to take home! We then went to JCPenny to check on some things, I found a lamp marked $100 and it was marked to $30. I price checked it and it was $14. I bought it. duh! It’s really pretty. Got my toenails done. (I’m hoping to have a chance to take pictures of all this stuff and add them later.)

Thank you all so much for all the birthday wishes today!

This weekend was pretty nice! I got to accompany Matt to take his final. Got to shop (tax free) at the mall… got to be there for his test results which were awesome! Had one of the teen girls over to do her hair for her. Had a fun cook out and swimming. Church was great. Me & the girls ditched class and ran to the donut shop, they read our lesson in the car and we had time to finish up while eating our donut holes back in class. I’m such a rebel. We had a nap today and tonight we had a potluck dinner at church. I picked up some pizzas while picking up a car load of teens. Talk about noise! I made delicious pork chops grilled for lunch…

This week I plan to utilize the grill.

I’m going to make the sticky chicken meal again (thanks Kim!)

Sticky Coconut Chicken

6-8 boneless, skinless chicken thighs (I used boneless skinless chicken breasts)

1 cup canned coconut milk
1 Tbsp. minced fresh ginger
1 tsp. fresh ground pepper
1 tsp. red pepper flakes

Marinade chicken in coconut milk, ginger, pepper and red pepper flakes at least one hour (I let mine marinade four about four to five hours). Grill on barbecue.

3/4 cup rice vinegar
1/2 cup sugar
3 Tbsp. soy sauce
1 tsp. red pepper flakes

While the chicken is grilling, bring above ingredients to a boil over medium-high heat and cook until mixture is reduced and thickened, about 8-10 minutes. Be patient because it takes a little while. But once it starts getting really thick, immediately take it off the heat! Glaze both sides of chicken the last few minutes of grilling and serve chicken over rice.

We’ll have burgers one night. Grilled.

Steak one night. With corn on the cob. You guess it. Grilled.

That leaves one night open… I’ll leave it that way to make room for a pizza or maybe leftovers.

Visit to link your menu up and view hundreds more!

My birthday is this weekend! Hopefully I’ll get a day or two off from cooking :), doubtful.

One last thing… today (Aug 4) is Izzy’s favorite therapist’s birthday!

a birthday, a tag, an award, and a menu…

Sunday, July 27th, 2008

Whew, that’s a lot of stuff for one post huh? We’ve had a busy day ending with a birthday party. I’m posting this all late Sunday night… but tomorrow is Amanda’s 18th birthday! I can hardly believe that I am the mother of an eighteen year old! It really seriously seems like yesterday that she was a little baby, then a little girl… then a pre-teen… you get the picture. It really goes fast. If you have a little one and you think it doesn’t go fast, let me tell you here and now it does! You will blink and be singing happy birthday to your eighteen year old child.

Amanda has been a relatively easy child to raise. She has a very sweet spirit and is quiet in nature. She is an incredibly hard worker in school and has made us so proud so many times… getting the golden falcon for having all “A’s” throughout junior high… being in the State and National Honor Societies… Having the highest gpa… making over 30 points in a single basketball game and winning MVP of the tournament… so many things she has done in her life to make us proud. She has a silly sense of humor that you only see if you know her well enough for her to show it to you.

Happy Birthday to Amanda. I love you!

Crystal tagged me for my five favorite things!

  1. family! Immediate to extended… they are my favorite peeps.
  2. friends! I have the best friends. I’m a blessed girl!
  3. church! We have an awesome church.
  4. blogging! I love to blog and love my bloggy friends (I’m meeting another IRL Monday!)
  5. sleep! My nap was cut short today to get ready for the party tonight… but it sure was nice!

I won’t mention purses or sonic ice… long lunches talking or praying at bedtime with Matt… shopping trips with my mom or snuggling with Izzy. Well, I guess I mentioned it all… but I just have so many favorite things. Thanks for the tag Crystal. I’ll tag anyone who wants to list their five favorite things!

One of my oldest bloggy friends (Sheryl) gave me the sharing the love blogging award. Thanks Sheryl!

I’ll pass it on to Amanda since it’s her birthday and all… and to my other birthday friends… Jenny (July 30), Marcia (Aug. 6)! I pass it to you too if your birthday is this month or in August! Happy Birthday!

Last but not least… menu time!

Monday is Amanda’s actual birthday, but she’s going out to eat dinner with Lorenzo and seeing Mama Mia… so we’ll just have a normal meal here. Most likely quesadillas. With grilled chicken and guacamole.

Tuesday grilled burgers and broccoli cauliflower salad

Wednesday we’ll have spaghetti & garlic bread.

Thursday grilled chicken and baked potatoes…

Friday Matt has requested gyros. yuck. but okay.

OH. One more thing. Guess what I got today?

Happy Monday!

Happy Birthday Isabelle!!!!

Izzy is six today! Six years old. Not the way I imagined her sixth birthday when her life began six years ago…

Isabelle is a beautiful, smart, loving, precious little girl that could not be loved more by more people.

I’m thankful for the six years I’ve had with her so far. I thank God for her life. I trust God with her life.
