smiles, babies and turkeys.

am iz2

Izzy is really happy to have Amanda here for the weekend.  The three of us had fun playing with Iz this morning!  Lots of happy smiles!  Izzy is doing great at school!  She is learning her spelling words so fast!  She is a really smart girl.  I’m sad that Melanie, Izzy’s teacher, is having surgery on her shoulder again.  Melanie is like sunshine in a person… and that sunshine has been pretty cloudy lately because she is in so much pain.  Her shoulder really needs a touch from God and a prayer for a successful procedure on Monday.  We need the sunshine back at school. (Miss YOU Melanie!).  In the meantime, Michele is holding things down and being a really good school mom for Iz.  We have an appointment for new AFO’s this Wednesday.  Casting is fun. Casting is fun… trying to convince myself 🙂 …

Here is Emelia aka baby follower in the church nursery with twins Makenna and Jasmine.  They are so cute!

At FLO Tuesday night there were so many single mothers and widows who came to get their turkeys and other food items for thanksgiving!  My sweet Bailey was there helping hand out the turkeys and carried them to the cars.  They may need to find apartments for rent/ I think it had an impact on him to see so many people so thankful for the food and help.  He came home and mentioned that he wanted to donate some of his own Christmas gift money to help others.   I asked why he wanted to and he said that he had enough and there were so many people who need things.  Made my mother heart proud!  He didn’t really want me to mention that to anyone, but I know you’ll keep it to yourself.

home bound.

Izzy and I are home today.  Izzy’s sweet teacher, Melanie, had shoulder surgery a couple of weeks ago and is home getting better.  Please pray that she gets well soon! We miss her!  Michele, Izzy’s para and school mom is home with her son who is sick today.  The two of them absent means Izzy gets to be home with me.  It’s a rainy day and nice day to stay in, but Izzy does love school.

We’ve been busy with Kid’s Krusade all week at church.  Last night was the last night.  Brent Pickens came from Arkansas and did puppets and chalk drawings etc.  Emelia was excited to get to help with puppets the last two nights.  Izzy enjoyed the program a lot and listened very intently.  She was so vocal Tuesday night I tried to slip out with her but the Pastor insisted I stay in, saying she was fine.  At the end of the service Brent invites the children up to pray.  When he asked them to raise their hand if they wanted to have Jesus in their hearts Izzy’s hand went up way high.  (her YES hand).  Here she is with her cool lighted sunglasses (a treat for the kids last night).

Bailey has been really busy with competitive drama.  He isn’t performing (yet) but is a stage hand.  He is planning to enroll in competitive drama to perform next semester and seems to really love being involved in drama.   I love that my brother Mike bought a new home in the addition very close to the high school.  Bailey walks there after practice and Mike brings him home.  Works out really well.  They are best buds 🙂 …

I just got a text from Amanda saying she needs a flu shot.  She had a cold last week but fortunately got over it quickly.  Her car is fixed. YAY.  After having the time belt off and water pump replaced the distributor went out (cha-ching) and finally it is all together and she took it back to OU Sunday evening.   She may need some online backup. She went on a retreat last weekend and had a great time.  She has been so focused on studying and stressed I think it did her a lot of good to get away for a couple of days.

I have been walking/running most days.  I love how pretty the weather has been and enjoy the park!  Here is the little pond… and the finishing scene! When I see my suburban I know I’m almost done and that is a good feeling 🙂 .

I made some veggie stew Monday and then again yesterday.  I filled up the pot that was Marmars to the brim 🙂 …  I love that pot!  It is so good. Emelia has had it as an after school snack each day and even said it was the best soup in the world. And to do a post ondisability appeal.

bad blogger update.

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

I’ve been terrible about keeping up with the blog!  UGH.  Here’s what’s going on with the fam…

Amanda.

Settling in at OU.  Getting adjusted to sharing a tiny dorm room with another person and a bathroom with three other girls (one of whom likes to spend the entire morning doing her makeup in the ONE bathroom and two put their nasty food trash in the bathroom trashcan).  She spent Saturday with us at home.  We shopped for shorts and a printer… and snacks.  She wanted to stay home and loved her newly decorated (smaller) room.  It was nice to spend the day with her.  Some texts I recieved from her last week:  “I think I’m joining the rowing team;” “I joined the pre-med club lol.”  I miss her.  Tonight I keep thinking I hear her come in and when I hear the fridge door open and close I expect to hear her say hello mah.  🙁

Bailey.

Getting adjusted to high school.  He is loving drama class which is a big surprise to both of us.  He is driving a lot with his driver’s permit.  He is learning quickly and my brother Mike has enjoyed taking him out on the weekends to drive.  They took a break Sunday afternoon and went to the driving range for a while.  He has been really focused on keeping up with school work because he knows the only way to avoid paying his insurance (when turning 16) is to have straight A’s.  That’s the rule.  Such a good boy.  We went to ortho appt. yesterday and are trying to decide what to do.

bluray.

Emelia.

Got all her hair chopped off today.  I just took her to a random salon because when Emelia is fixated on something she doesn’t stop until it is achieved.  So it is done.  We lucked out with a very precise thorough stylist.  She washed her long crazy hair, then spent about thirty minutes untangling the mess of long hair, cut and thinned her hair, dried and then straightenend it.  (I have to put in at this point that this was a very pretty/nice salon)… I was impressed with the finished product, emelia loves it.  I was more impressed when she said the price was $10.  $10? Yikes!  After watching her attention to details on em’s hair I asked her to wax my eyebrows knowing she would be good at that too.  I have a new brow girl! yay!  (don’t worry I tipped her nicely.)  Emelia is also adjusting to middle school and has been a social butterfly!

Isabelle.

Wow.  So many good reports for Iz this year from school.  Today specifically she worked on math and Melanie reported that she did really well with simple addition problems using her yes/no communicating.  She was also very verbal from the time she woke up.  She called out and I asked if she was ready to get up and she said something that sounded like, “let’s go.”  She rode the bike at school and pedaled!  Camilla said she worked really hard and speaking of Camilla, Margaret said Izzy tried really hard to say her name when looking at her picture in speech therapy.  They are feeding her lunch at school and she is doing really good.  It is a relief to take her and not worry about rushing home to feed her.  They truly are the best group of teachers/therapists ever!  I heart them.

school and more school.

First… a tour of Izzy’s new classroom!  We went last Friday to see her room before school started Monday.  Melanie showed us around 🙂 … Here is the communication device table.  Look at all those cool devices! (oooh…ahhh!)

comm-dev

Here is the CRV (I think that’s right and not sure what it stands for, but Melanie checks it out from the library for the blind for Izzy).  It is so cool and Izzy loves it!

Here is Izzy’s office!  Notice all the orange?

Melanie had a present for MOI!  I heart her.

This is the rest station!  See the cute soft comfy orange and pink pillows.  They have been enjoying this area daily this week!

Izzy has been doing great at school.  First grade is GREAT!  Here are a couple of notes from her teacher (Melanie).

Monday:

Izzy had a great first day.  During Mrs. Weber’s class she was extra attentive.  She completed a page on syllables and sat by Isabelle (a friend from last year) during story time.  During the story Mrs. Weber asked what kind of ice cream they liked and Izzy raised her right hand for chocolate!  The next story was about Molly the shortest girl in her class.  Molly loved her grandma and when Mrs. Weber asked the class who loved their grandmas Izzy raised her right hand! How cool is that!  A grand day!

Tuesday:

Another great day in 1st grade!  Izzy was very verbal all day today.  She raised her no hand for Mrs. Weber when asked if anyone had a question.  She raised her right hand (yes) when I came to July for her birthday month! In music she sang!  She was very attentive and had a great day!

Bailey started high school this year and Emelia started middle school.  They are both having a great first week too!

I helped Amanda move into her dorm today at OU.  We had lunch at Victoria’s and then faced chaos like you cannot imagine at the campus!  So many people, so much stuff, so many lines.  It was insane.  But she is moved in and her room is small but cute.  Her new roommate (Rachel) seems really nice and her family was very helpful and nice too.  I already miss having her here, but am so excited for her.  I’m thinking it’s going to hit me tomorrow morning when she’s not here to say, “good morning ma.”  I’ll really miss that.  She is the official door locker and checks all the doors every night.  She has already texted me to remind me to lock up.  🙂 She has big amounts of concern :).

last days of summer.

It’s been a fun & busy week.  Wednesday my friend Melody took me to lunch at the Paseo Grill.

paseo1

They had tons of vegan choices (well… fourish).  I had pasta with veggies and it was delish.  We shared some fried green beans too.  She gave me a card welcoming me to the “club.”  I said, “No thanks :).”  She also gave me some fun things like this book…

skinny

and a shape magazine.  I told her I thought she was trying to tell me something :)… she said she just knew I was on a health kick lately.

I worked Tuesday and Thursday, but driving home both days I stopped off at the Edmond Walmart who happened to have some morningstar products our local walmart doesn’t carry.  I had to get one of each to try.  They had mushroom burgers, italian herb chicken patties, and asian burgers.  We really liked all of these.  They are all vegan.  Matt liked the asian patties best.  There is a recipe for spring rolls using them I imagine I’ll try soon.  The italian chicken patties were good on buns with marinara.  We had the mushroom burgers on french bread with sliced avocados.  Yum!

Today started early with a trip to Kohl’s for Emelia.  We had some Kohl’s cash and coupons mixed with tax free weekend… She got three jeans, six tops, and a belt for $60.  Pretty good deal huh?  Afterwards we stopped at Rue21 and Bailey got a new belt.  He is so thin he almost has to wear a belt just to keep his jeans up.  Poor kid 😛 …

The next stop was my brother’s office at the department of public safety for Bailey’s learner’s permit.  He was able to take the test there and barely passed.  He did pass so that’s all that counts and I wouldn’t have known the shape of the railroad signs either.  We all had to go celebrate the permit with Falcone’s pizza afterwards.  Mike and Bailey chose the restaurant.   (I had to snap a pic with my phone of his first attempt to drive).

permit

I came home to feed Isabelle lunch and then had to run errands with Amanda.  Her car had a low tire so we took it to have it checked and the tire shop was running behind.  We walked to the auto parts store and bought windshield wiper blades (which she has been needing to replace) and put them on all by ourselves.  I was so proud.  I have always had the guy at the auto store do it for me, but since we had walked there rather than drive…  They were still working on the tire so we went in a local diner called, “Harley’s,” which we had never been into and had a coke and snack.  It was fun and spontaneous just to walk around and do whatever we wanted.  We went to get her license renewed after they finished looking at her tire and then picked up her pictures at CVS. We didn’t go to Circuit City.  It was a fun afternoon!

And look what was delivered when I got home…

jacki1

Pretty flowers from my friend Jacki.  So sweet of her!

I’ve also been getting the strangest cards from Tulsa, OK.  One had been signed “Happy Birthday,” one was signed “Matt P.”  I’m on to you John Tiefenthaler!!!!!

Tomorrow is slip and slide at church.  Giving away like 500 backpacks full of school supplies to the kids in our community.  After that we’ll be getting packed up for our trip to Missouri.  I’m taking the kids to Roaring River and am very excited to get away for my dreaded birthday.

On the strike front (AT&T), district 4 settled on a contract today at 5 p.m.  This is a good sign!  Matt wasn’t thrilled because they settled but I am very glad and will be happy to be off strike watch.  Hopefully district 6 will settle soon as well.  I saw the reports of a slight decrease in unemployment rates this morning.  It was like a tenth of a point, but in true Pollyanna fashion I just have to say I’m glad it went down instead of up!

We took the form for bailey do do parent instructed driver’s ed to my brother tonight (he works at dps).

I can’t believe he will be driving soon… I guess Matt will be his instructor.  Matt helped amanda learn to drive too.  Now I have to look at the list and find the best driver’s ed package to get for B.

Also Thursday is his ortho appt.  We will begin the long scary process of having braces put on him.  Pray. 🙂

hi.

The vegan thing is going pretty well… my favorite kid comment from the week was from Emelia while leaving church yesterday.  She said, “Can you please take me by McDonald’s for some meat?”  Poor girl 🙂  I fixed sloppy joes for lunch with morningstar crumbles (meat substitute) and we had fresh green beans and carrot sticks with hummus (and veggie chips).

Tonight we had ww pitas with beans and morningstar crumbles with taco seasoning and avocados.  Green beans and fresh corn on the cob were sides.  I was very full.

I cannot honestly say I miss meat yet.  I am feeling healthier and seem to be losing weight too! AED

*subject change*

Spent the day helping the twins (lol) Emelia and Bailey get their rooms clean.  They needed mom help and I had to take the day off and help them.  All day.  Well, I did take time out for a pedicure mostly because those silly flags painted on my toes were getting annoying.  That sweet nail girl “tammy” always does something whacky to my toes and I can’t understand her well enough to stop it before it’s too late.  I picked a pleasant neutral hot pink and ended up with tropical designs :O… Oh well.

tropical-toes

We went for a nice swim after dinner, in this heat the pool is priceless for cooling off in the evenings.

Izzy.

Isabelle is doing well. She’s healthy and happy.  I will be so glad when school starts again!  I know she will be too!  She goes back to ESY this Wednesday (two weeks off for the fourth holiday).  She is growing so much it seems.  Maybe it’s my imagination but she seems bigger.  She will have a birthday soon.

Amanda.

Amanda is getting closer and closer to move out day.  I am in denial.  We got her bedding and other things for her dorm room last week.  I need to find a few more things and we’re going to make a curtain to fit the window…  She is so excited!

busy day. again.

I gave Bailey a new haircut last night… and a few highlights on top.  He looks so cute.  Wait! That’s not the right word for a mother to use when referring to her 15 year old mature son… He looks cool.

See.

bailey

Then today Amanda begged asked for highlights and a trim so I fixed her up too!  I don’t have a pic yet of her hair but it looks very pretty.

After we played beauty shop we got ready really fast and then headed to Marshalls.  My favorite!  I had to do a little shopping for Father’s Day (so did Amanda). She also wanted to look at clothes because she had someplace special to go tonight and nothing to wear.  Tragic.  We found all kinds of great things that looked so cute on her!  I found the cutest pair of knee length pants.  I heart them.  Enough that when I get a chance I’ll post a pic.  I’m not sure about the perfect shirt for them yet…

We split a quessadilla at Q’doba.  It was “eh.”  Then stopped at Walmart for a few groceries.

I dropped Amanda off at home so she could spend the next two hours straightening her hair and met Matt to give him a book he wanted to peruse.  Boring day at the office.  Came home again and fed Iz.  Then ran to library to pick up two books that were ready I reserved yesterday after recieving an email from GAIL about book recommendations.  I’m super excited to read this new series.  The only problem is finding time to read because I should technically be doing spill plans if I have free time… not recreational reading.  blah. Checking on auto insurance.

Me and Bailey stopped for a sonic half priced happy hour drink.  Love happy hour.

The plan for tonight is to grill some corn and other things, swim for a while, then either be bad and start this book or be good and do the last few spill plans I need to get finished! ugh.

Happy Friday!

I found a couple of kodak photo cd’s while looking for something else this afternoon. They were both from spring 2004. Right before Izzy’s accident. Here are a few…
