busy day. again.

Friday, June 19th, 2009

I gave Bailey a new haircut last night… and a few highlights on top.  He looks so cute.  Wait! That’s not the right word for a mother to use when referring to her 15 year old mature son… He looks cool.

Then today Amanda begged asked for highlights and a trim so I fixed her up too!  I don’t have a pic yet of her hair but it looks very pretty.

After we played beauty shop we got ready really fast and then headed to Marshalls.  My favorite!  I had to do a little shopping for Father’s Day (so did Amanda). She also wanted to look at clothes because she had someplace special to go tonight and nothing to wear.  Tragic.  We found all kinds of great things that looked so cute on her!  I found the cutest pair of knee length pants.  I heart them.  Enough that when I get a chance I’ll post a pic.  I’m not sure about the perfect shirt for them yet…

We split a quessadilla at Q’doba.  It was “eh.”  Then stopped at Walmart for a few groceries.

I dropped Amanda off at home so she could spend the next two hours straightening her hair and met Matt to give him a book he wanted to peruse.  Boring day at the office.  Came home again and fed Iz.  Then ran to library to pick up two books that were ready I reserved yesterday after recieving an email from GAIL about book recommendations.  I’m super excited to read this new series.  The only problem is finding time to read because I should technically be doing spill plans if I have free time… not recreational reading.  blah. Checking on auto insurance.

Me and Bailey stopped for a sonic half priced happy hour drink.  Love happy hour.

The plan for tonight is to grill some corn and other things, swim for a while, then either be bad and start this book or be good and do the last few spill plans I need to get finished! ugh.

Happy Friday!

fave five.

Friday, June 5th, 2009

Another busy week! I really thought that Summer break would mean a less hectic schedule, but that’s just not happening! Anyway, I haven’t really had much chance to “blog” this week… but here’s my fave five:

1.   I saw this post over at Jill’s blog about her nails.  I have been considering getting my nails done again for some time and her post helped push me over the nail edge.  I have had so much trouble typing today with these new things even in short length.  I stopped getting nails when Izzy had her accident so it’s been a while… gonna take some getting used to.  (you are right Jill, it is hard to take a pic of your own hand!)

2.  My favorite day this week was probably Monday!  Even though we were on some kind of crazy chase for the right person or place to be at the University of Oklahoma, it was still fun to walk around the beautiful campus.  We finally were directed to the honors college and joined the scholars program enrollment.  I got to sit in a parent’s meeting while Amanda got all enrolled.  I was mistaken for her sister once and her classmate another time.  I was ok with that.

3.  My other bloggy friend Angie gave me a tip about learning to run effortlessly.  That’s kind of a joke to me, but still a goal for this year.  I am happy to report that after about a week of using her method today was actually invigorating.  I took Bailey and his friend Christian with me and actually out ran them a time or two.  The first time I went it was awful! So I am hopeful I will be able to do this!  Thanks Ang!

4.  I saw this recipe for Chicken Divan over at OHAmanda… and I can’t do a post without food in it!

5.  These shoes!  They are so comfy and even cute!

That’s my five. Visit Susanne to share yours.

Amanda’s Baccalaureate

Sunday, May 17th, 2009

Today was Amanda’s Baccalaureate.  It was a short, sweet service.

Here she is with her forever friend Tiffany.  They played basketball together all throughout Junior High.

You can pick Amanda out of the crowd, she’s the one with the white gown and blue collar!

Amanda, Tiffany & moi!

Mom, Amanda and moi again!

Amanda with her friend Jessamine, they are planning to room together at the University of Oklahoma this Fall!  She is a Salutorian.

food… and work…

Friday, May 15th, 2009

Matt took today (and Monday) off.  Monday because that is the day of Amanda’s graduation… and today just because.  We compiled a lengthy to-do list for the day.  I started by going to the variety show emelia was performing in at her school.   I’ll try to post it later tonight…. She’s on the left btw.

After I got Izzy to school I started mowing and Matt started trimming tree branches.  He ended up cutting down two trees that were almost dead.  I went to get the propane tank for the grill refilled and came home to vacuum the pool.  I got a really painful sunburn which is odd because I didn’t even realize it was that hot.

I got this cool calphalon pot for $10 at Marshall’s last week that was just begging to be used… So I made homemade scalloped potatoes.

I sliced yukon gold potatoes thin, put a layer of potatoes… salt, pepper, chives, grated cheddar sliced onions, then another layer of potatoes, etc. about four or five layers deep and then poured half and half over the top and more cheese.  Delish.

The potatoes cooked while I was picking izzy up and running errands, I came home and wrapped corn on the cob seasoned and onions and garlic head with butter salt pepper and a little sugar on the grill.  Later I added burgers.  I don’t know if it was the one meal a day thing or what but everything was so good.  Seriously.  I think they were the best burgers I have ever had.  I need to do a post on Colonix program

Matt and the kids went for a swim while I was being the grillmaster 🙂 …

Yesterday was Amanda’s last day of High School. Ever.  Sad huh?  Not to her 🙂 …

Couple of prayer requests… a friend from church has a baby who was diagnosed with cancer yesterday.  He is just a few months old and obviously this is quite a shock.  Also my oldest brother, Jody, had surgery on his back Wednesday and is in a great amount of pain.

Here’s a pic from the Tulsa World of Paula, Matt’s mom (and my fav. mil) volunteering at the Special Olympics.  You can tell her heart was in it huh?

thursday 13

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

  1. It’s not raining today. That’s a good thing.
  2. Mom made schnitzel for me last night. It’s my favorite!
  3. I brought home some to warm up for lunch today.
  4. I’m on a diet again.
  5. Schnitzel doesn’t go with a diet.
  6. I did skip the mashed new potatoes.
  7. I didn’t skip the fried okra.
  8. … or cake.
  9. Thanks Mom!
  10. No really, thanks Mom.
  11. Amanda saw an olympian with her hair french braided across the front and remembered we did her hair that way when she was growing her bangs out years ago. So we did that to her hair.

  13. Emelia saw it and wanted her hair done the same way.
  14. They both looked very cute! I should have taken a pic of the two of them… maybe later today 🙁

Here’s Izzy, just out of the bath…

Hair combed!

All dressed for school!

Have a great day!

a birthday, a tag, an award, and a menu…

Sunday, July 27th, 2008

Whew, that’s a lot of stuff for one post huh? We’ve had a busy day ending with a birthday party. I’m posting this all late Sunday night… but tomorrow is Amanda’s 18th birthday! I can hardly believe that I am the mother of an eighteen year old! It really seriously seems like yesterday that she was a little baby, then a little girl… then a pre-teen… you get the picture. It really goes fast. If you have a little one and you think it doesn’t go fast, let me tell you here and now it does! You will blink and be singing happy birthday to your eighteen year old child.

Amanda has been a relatively easy child to raise. She has a very sweet spirit and is quiet in nature. She is an incredibly hard worker in school and has made us so proud so many times… getting the golden falcon for having all “A’s” throughout junior high… being in the State and National Honor Societies… Having the highest gpa… making over 30 points in a single basketball game and winning MVP of the tournament… so many things she has done in her life to make us proud. She has a silly sense of humor that you only see if you know her well enough for her to show it to you.

Happy Birthday to Amanda. I love you!

Crystal tagged me for my five favorite things!

  1. family! Immediate to extended… they are my favorite peeps.
  2. friends! I have the best friends. I’m a blessed girl!
  3. church! We have an awesome church.
  4. blogging! I love to blog and love my bloggy friends (I’m meeting another IRL Monday!)
  5. sleep! My nap was cut short today to get ready for the party tonight… but it sure was nice!

I won’t mention purses or sonic ice… long lunches talking or praying at bedtime with Matt… shopping trips with my mom or snuggling with Izzy. Well, I guess I mentioned it all… but I just have so many favorite things. Thanks for the tag Crystal. I’ll tag anyone who wants to list their five favorite things!

One of my oldest bloggy friends (Sheryl) gave me the sharing the love blogging award. Thanks Sheryl!

I’ll pass it on to Amanda since it’s her birthday and all… and to my other birthday friends… Jenny (July 30), Marcia (Aug. 6)! I pass it to you too if your birthday is this month or in August! Happy Birthday!

Last but not least… menu time!

Monday is Amanda’s actual birthday, but she’s going out to eat dinner with Lorenzo and seeing Mama Mia… so we’ll just have a normal meal here. Most likely quesadillas. With grilled chicken and guacamole.

Tuesday grilled burgers and broccoli cauliflower salad

Wednesday we’ll have spaghetti & garlic bread.

Thursday grilled chicken and baked potatoes…

Friday Matt has requested gyros. yuck. but okay.

OH. One more thing. Guess what I got today?

Happy Monday!

Amanda and I went to the ladies banquet/dinner tonight at Sante Fe Restaurant.  It was pretty good! and the speaker was interesting too.  She operates a home for women who are coming out of prison, mostly people who have drug issues.  She is a recovering addict and found God.  Amanda and I sat across from Miki and her daughter Madison.  It was fun!  I enjoyed having dinner with Amanda too, even cutting her steak.  Here we are on our way out…
