1. Do you play any musical instruments? If so, which one(s)? If not, is there one you always wanted to know how to play?
I played the clarinet and oboe in junior high.  I liked the oboe the best because no one else knew how to play it so it was different… but I soon decided I was not meant for band life and stopped playing.  I would love to learn to play the piano now.  I would love to take lessons…  too bad we gave our piano away.

2. Do you sing well? Do you sing along in the car? Do you use head motions?
I love to sing.  I sang some solos at talents shows in junior high… but looking back realize I am not a very good singer.

3. Who was your teen music crush?
Probably Shaun Cassidy.  I had bell bottom jeans with his picture on them!

4. What is your favorite type of music?
Contemporary Christian music is my favorite type of music, although I do like classic 80’s.

5. Who are your three favorite musical artists?
Beth Nielson Chapman, Eva Cassidy, and Casting Crowns.

6. Does your church play traditional or praise songs, or a combination?
Mostly praise, but both I suppose.

7. What is your favorite hymn?
I love the newer version of amazing grace…

8. What is your favorite praise song?
Right now I love “Lord, You’re Holy by Karen Wheaton” and “The Presence of the Lord is Here by Byron Cage.”

9. What is the strangest musician’s name whose music you like?
Basia! I heart Basia.
Here’s the bonus question that you get to answer with a question. What one question would you like for Heather and Reese to ask in a future KATF? Just DON’T answer it yet. It can be something random, something you’d just love to know about everyone else…just whatever floats your boat. Go for it!
What would be in your perfect picnic lunch?  (this question inspired by my quest for food to pack for my lunch for the field trip I am getting ready for… we’re going to a pumpkin patch and corn maze!) I didn’t have time to link to the songs and artists because I am leaving in one hour and have a list of things to accomplish before my time is up… Have a great Friday!  Visit Kayren to play along!

Want to play along, visit Kicking It In Crazyville

It’s that time a week again! Know and Tell Friday. Here are the questions!

1. Do you have fake plants in your house? Do you like them? No.  I don’t have any fake plants… I have some fake mums in the front room with pumpkins.  I have seen pretty fake plants that would be good to hide mobile routers.

2. What is the oldest piece of furniture you have that is not an antique? Describe it. Probably the white dresser in Emelia’s room… it was mine when I was a little girl.

3. Do you have any antiques? Yep.  we have several things that were Marmar’s (matt’s grandmother) probably the oldest would be a trunk that was her father’s…

4. What type of dishes do you use? China, stoneware, Corelle, Tupperware, paper plates? mostly paper plates.  Stoneware… we have dessert rose but they don’t get used much.

5. What is your favorite thing in your house? my laptop.

6. Do you like to use lamps or overhead lighting? I hate overhead lighting! Hate!  I love lamps and prefer dim lighting.

7. Are you a pristine white wall person or do you love color? I like color on the walls… The only room in my house with white walls is the bathroom in the hall that has white beadboard… and I like it white because I can decorate for the season and change it a lot.  I think colors make the room warmer.  Our bedroom is a weird blue color that I really love. It matches a lot and can look purple when with purple or blue with blue.  It’s light enough that it is soft and comfortable.

1. How far in advance do you start getting ready for back-to-school (whether for your own kids, or for yourself when you were in school)?

I usually start picking up school supplies when the main stores like Target or Walmart have them out.  You know, when boxes of crayons are five for $1…. I grab at least 10.  Which means I have stacks of crayons… Oh well.  I guess I could take up coloring as a hobby.  When it’s time to actually go back to school we go shopping to fill in the gaps.

2. Do you have any picky eaters who need special considerations for lunches? What does a typical bagged lunch look like in your house?

Amanda eats at home, after her morning at high school and before heading to her college classes, Bailey takes cash and being the pickiest person in our household I’m afraid a lot of days he buys chips…  I buy things for him to take but he doesn’t feel like it’s cool to take a lunch.  Emelia loves everything and loves the cafeteria.  So, she just eats at school.

3. What supply items do you skimp on and what are you willing to shell out the big bucks for?

We probably spend the most on backpacks… I pick up the other things when they are on sale.

4. Do you get your kids up, or do they get up on their own? Any snooze-hitters that have trouble waking up? How about the opposite, any kids that are up at the crack of dawn?

They have alarm clocks… Matt is up before I am and makes sure they are up.  Bailey’s bus comes a full hour before Emelia’s bus… Izzy usually wakes up when I do.

5. Any cafeteria horror stories? Is school food as bad as they say?

You know how I hate fruit… well it was revealed to me in sixth grade that they smashed bananas to put in the chocolate sheet cake to meet nutrition requirements… chocolate cake has never been the same for me 🙁

6. How important is it to you to make sure your kids have the latest styles and trendiest accessories?

Not that important.  I like them to look nice and cute… but they all have their own styles!  I do enjoy dressing Izzy in cute gymboree outfits.

7. Remember the movie Kindergarten Cop? If Arnold Schwarzenegger was your child’s new kindergarten teacher, how would you feel?

I think I’d be okay with it… I would probably question why he gave up his position to come teach the little kids, but we’d adjust 🙂
