cafe chat

The catchphrase “It’s not about me” has become quite popular in our current world today. What does that phrase mean to you in your personal life? Explain.

It makes me think about what I call the 10,000 ft. view.  When I am feeling down, or having a hard day I remember that the world is much bigger than the close up view I’m living.  I try to remember the big picture, including the creator and His complete control over every situation.  It helps to know that it’s not all about me.  Be serious though, for almost everyone their life is about them.  It’s like being the main character in your own movie… but, in the world we are all just extras.  Fortunately that is just the world’s view.  To God we are all precious.  I prefer to think of myself as a daughter of the King.

  2. Great answer! When I hear the phrase, it makes me stop and think about what God would want me to do or say. I guess it takes me back to the other catch phrase, “What would Jesus do?” Our lives are just a small part in a very large world.

wonderful answer.. to me it makes me think about how my life is not my own but Gods. and that things that happen in my life isn’t about me, But about God and what He wants to do. Sort of like it’s not what I want that matters but what God wants..

Annie, your answer was the best. I know I often get stuck in the “me, me, me” rut, but I don’t think it’s in a selfish way (like, “I want/need that now, it’s all about my needs,” etc.)…it’s more like I don’t like the situation I’m in and I try to figure out ways to change it. But handing it over to God to figure out for me always works, even if it’s for one day. I just hand it over to him the next day if I’m still worried about it, and so on…

    Blessings Annie,

What a great perspective and concise answer! I’m so glad that YOU and I are daughters of the King!!! That was truly a very honest answer…but I sure hope my life isn’t truly mostly about me…that would mean that I have not grown at all in my life…

Thank you for sharing! I’ve enjoyed looking around your blog at new things I haven’t seen. Is the week in review…your meme…or just your idea of summary. Great perspective! Love the idea of being a movie “extra.” My five-year old was introduced to GoogleEarth the other day and remarked: “That’s the way GOD sees us. Right?” In a sense, she’s correct. Only we are so much more personal to him. From the standpoint of the topic, I agree with your big-picture theory. God Bless. Great Blog!

Beautifully said! I loved the 10,000 ft. view perspective. I remember once when problems abounded at work my boss took me out to the loading dock where the sun was shining through. He told me to look at the specks of dust in the sunlight and to remember that life on earth is just one of those specks. It really reminded me that God has created so much more than just me and the work problems we faced at the time, and helped me put eternity into as much perspective as my human mind could handle. And yes, we may think we are the shining star of Our Life Movie, but we are all children of the King. What a great reminder! Loved your post.
