know & tell

Friday, June 13th, 2008

1. Are you a procrastinator or do you get things done? Both. I either put them off til the last possible minute and then get them done unusually fast, or sometimes I follow lists to get things done.

2. What is the worst thing you have ever eaten? Years ago I went to lunch with a friend from work to a little hole in the wall bbq place in the city. It was pretty ghetto and I have an issue about eating meat on bones. I don’t. They only had ribs and we took them back to the office (with the canned beverage they sold and piece of wonder bread in a baggie) and it was like skin on these bones. Gross. I guess technically I didn’t eat it, but ick!

3. What is your favorite movie, and why? I like Beaches. Probably because it’s a cry movie.

4. What one physical feature would you want to change about yourself? Just one? Hmmm… If my legs were shorter it would be easier to find jeans that are long enough… Or… I’d have my arms really skinny :)

5. Would you rather travel the world, or travel through space? world. definitely the world. I have no interest in space, space movies, space television, astronomy… the only thing I enjoy is seeing stars once in a while.

6. Favorite cell phone feature: camera or texting? texting. I almost never use the camera, but I text a lot. It’s the best way to communicate with the kids when they are away and even some friends. I heart texting.

7. Sports car or SUV? SUV. With all the kids it would be miserable to have us all in a “sports car.” When we went from minivan to suburban it was like taking a breath of fresh air. Everyone could have their space! Now with gas a million dollars a gallon it’s not practical, but for now it is what it is…

Friday Fill-Ins #76

1. Paint is high up on my bucket list. (I don’t know what a bucket list is, I am guessing it is something to do with that movie… and maybe about things that are important… paint isn’t important, but is the only thing I can think of as a bucket.)

2. My favorite quote is “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.“; it’s from the bible, Phil. 4:13.
3. Isabelle inspired me to start blogging.
4. Strawberries are best in a painting, blech!
5. I was at church and the associate pastor told me to dress differently and I couldn’t figure out what was wrong with the way I was dressed… in the last dream I remember having.
6. The most enjoyable time to go for a walk is in the evenings, when it’s cool.
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to Matt’s mom, aunt and sister coming, tomorrow my plans include birthday party for Matt and Father’s Day extravaganza at Mom’s and Sunday, I want to take a nap after church!

Help My Unbelief!
by Jon Walker

“I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”

Mark 9:24 (NIV)

*** *** *** ***

Today’s guest devotional is provided by Jon Walker –

Recently, I’ve been thinking my life verse should be Mark 9:24: “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”

I do believe, yet I have so much unbelief in my life. I walk in faith, yet my faith is often more in the things I see, than the things I don’t see. I follow God, yet I repeatedly find myself stumbling down a path of my own choosing.

I believe; God, help me overcome my unbelief –

•I believe; help me live like I believe.
•I believe; help me choose like I believe.
•I believe, help me trust like I believe.

Help me to live like I really believe you are trustworthy. Help me to abandon my mythology where I believe I am more trustworthy than you, and so I live like I believe in myself, instead of like I believe in you.

“I do believe, but help me not to doubt!” (Mark 9:24 NLT).

What does this mean?

•“Help my unbelief” – You cannot work yourself up to greater belief; instead, your belief deepens as you deepen your fellowship with God. Tell him, “I believe; help me overcome my unbelief.”

•Believe God, not yourself – As you face decisions today, ask yourself, “Is this decision based on my belief in God or my belief in myself?” Keep confessing, “Lord, I believe; help me overcome my unbelief.”

•Focus on knowing God – Knowing God is more important than knowing the details. Oswald Chambers says, “Living a life of faith means never knowing where you are being led. But it does mean loving and knowing the One who is leading. It is literally a life of faith, not of understanding and reason – a life of knowing him who calls us to go.”

My mom was in a car accident several years ago. Her car was totaled. It was a really bad deal because her car was paid for but not worth enough cash to buy another car as reliable and nice as the one that was wrecked. The worst part was it wasn’t her fault at all. Someone ran a stop sign. I was just happy she wasn’t hurt too badly, but it isn’t fair to lose out in more ways than one when you are in an accident.

Have you been in an accident that wasn’t your fault. You can re-coup the diminished value of your vehicle up to four years from the accident.
