music and a tornado!

May-3-2008 By mylifeasannie

Whew… what a night. I took Emelia to her honor choir concert at her school. I heard a noise that sounded like heavy rain or maybe … hail.

It was hail. So loud it was hard to hear the singing. A boy brought in a piece of hail the size of his palm.

They kept singing.

I texted Amanda and asked what the weather was doing.
She said, “tornado warning.”
I said “where?”
She said, “10th and Hiwassee.”
That is where the school is at. Exactly!

They are still singing.

Finally someone from the audience went to the front and told them the sirens were going off. They told all the students to find their parents and get in a hall. It was really frightening. We stayed in the hall until the storm passed. I called Matt and he said it was in our back yard. It actually did damage in the mile behind out house. What an experience!

This is the cloud after it passed the school.

  1. Joyful Days Said,

We had sirens tonight–rotation, no funnels.

My boys were singing with Emilia when they heard the Joshua song. LOL!

  2. Suzi Searles Said,

I’m so glad to hear that you are all safe. I’ve never been through or even close to a Tornado, we don’t have those here is Washington. The scariest thing I’ve been through is a earthquake.

    Love in Christ,
    Suzi

Yikes, that is scary! We’re supposed to get bad weather today and maybe hail, I hope not tornadoes though! The tornadoes were about 90 miles south of us last time but really did some damage.

  6. Barb Said,

I would have been terrified, Annie. Tornados scare me more than any other kind of bad weather because they’re so powerful and so unpredictable. Even the photo of that sky is scary to me. Sounds like you were a lot calmer than I would have been!

Scary, but I’m so glad that everyone is ok and you didn’t have any damage. We had bad hail and some terrible tornadoes in our area a few weeks ago. It’s so awful when it hits.

  11. Karen Said,

I bet it WAS scary, but seems like it would have been kind of exciting, too. I wonder if in twenty or thirty years the “kids” will be telling their own kids, “I remember when I was your age, singing in a program at school when a tornado passed by. I had to run and find Grandma and sit with her in the hallway until it passed. Oh, it was scary. But I was brave!”
    Memories…*grin*

Oh Annie, I am so thankful you and the children are Ok. We’ve heard in the news about the tornados. Really frightening. It also makes you think how little we are in front of Nature’s forces and God’s power. Thinking of you and your family.
    Have a loving week end.

[…] Yep!  Many many times.  I live in central Oklahoma.  The sirens don’t even scare me anymore.  We just take shelter and keep going on like nothing happened.   The last tornado that came close was this one. […]
