What are some lies out in the world (secular views) today about women that contradict what God says in His word about how women should be/act? Diving a little deeper…What are some lies that are still out there in our Christian circles about women? (Feel free to talk from a single woman’s point of view or a married woman’s point of view)This is a really great question! The first thought that pops into my mind is the idea that we should look out for number one. Number one is not me. Number one is God. So many things follow that idea and dictate how we live. It is really hard to live in this world and not be of the world. The importance of clothes, designer purses, shoes, homes, furniture, cars, blah blah blah. We put so much emphasis on the way we look and how people perceive us, when in the big scheme of things and the way God intended they simply don’t matter. I will confess I get pulled into this catch too. I use shopping sometimes as a type of therapy. I get happy when I buy things. It’s wrong. And bad. (p.s. Sorry God.)There are so many other lies that contradict God’s word.

I’ve made it a goal today to weed the back flower bed and have decided to put on my suit and weed until I’m too hot and then swim a minute and weed some more… so I’ll ponder this question while I’m sweating glowing!

Oh btw… the interview was fine. I was pretty nervous, and even more nervous when it was time for the news to come on. They did a good job editing me and I overall liked the information given and although it sorta made me cringe to hear my own voice, it made me feel good to put the new out there. And… Matt didn’t make fun of me (he mentioned that I look pale, but then I think my lack of sun has kept me younger looking) and my daddy called and said, “I’m sure proud of you, I may not tell you that often, but I am.” Sweet huh?

oh me…

Friday, May 30th, 2008

A reporter called my house this afternoon.  There have been five drownings in the city in the last week.  She wanted me to do an on-air interview about water safety.  I did it.  I know I look like a big dork.  If it gets just one persons attention and prevents one accident it will be totally worth looking like a dork.  I’m not mentioning the station, for those of you who are local… I don’t want you to see me looking like a dork!  UGH.

I did an interview last year with a new channel too.  It makes me cringe to watch it, it’s still on our tivo.  Matt makes fun of me every time!  He has promised not to make fun of me this time.  We’ll see.

know & tell friday

Friday, May 30th, 2008

1. What achievement are you most proud of? Probably staying married through tough times.  It will be 19 years June 17…. and raising really great kids.

2. Do you like your spouse’s/significant other’s name? His name is Matt.  It’s short & sweet.  Our last name is long and has to be spelled often… my maiden name was easier.

3. What is the most unique name you’ve ever heard a person have? An old friend from high school named her kids dallis and dax.  Pretty unique…

4. Which would you rather be: divinely beautiful, dazzlingly clever, or angelically good? (From Anne of Green Gables!)  I think being good is a choice so I would choose the beautiful one… you can’t choose how you look.

5. What is it about your wardrobe that is your trademark, uniquely you?  My wardrobe is not very unique.  I guess the most unique thing about it would be the amount of ultra tall clothes in my wardrobe. That and dresses I can wear as tunics because of my height.

6. Which is worse: no tv or no music? Probably no tv.  I like the background noise even if it is the news sometimes.  Although mornings like this are perfect for no tv!

7. You’re stranded on a deserted island and you can have with you: 1 friend or family member, 1 item from your kitchen and 1 public figure (politician/actor/author). Who/what would you choose?

I would have Matt because he is strong, would do the work to get shelter and food and would take care of me.  I’d have to have a case of coke to drink because I hate water!  and Tom Hanks so he could make cute friends out of soccer balls and keep us entertained.

wordy wednesday

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

The wii fit is a huge hit around here!  The kids are taking turns on it pretty much constantly which is a good thing considering it is actual exercise.  I haven’t had time to “play” it today, I did do the balance exercises yesterday though.  I didn’t do as bad as I expected…  They are all working to beat the previous first place winner.  I don’t have a chance with this group but it’s okay…

I’ve been b u s y today!  I cleaned out my car, washed the floor mats and carpet, swept it, washed it… worked on vacuuming the pool and then had to go buy a replacement vacuum brush because somehow ours broke.  Now my arms are super sunburned from being out so long.

I’m watching Emelia right now, she’s doing boxing on the wii fit and it’s pretty funny!    I’ve given them all chore lists for the Summer, they were not thrilled about it… but are doing their jobs pretty well.   I added brush teeth, make bed, and gather any laundry from your rooms to their list.

Well, I’m off to fold a load of clothes and put away another load…  and then start dinner… and then church…
