So, I was thinking about not doing a time travel this week… because I hadn’t really thought about it and I don’t have any thoughts right now. BUT, the first thing that popped in my head is funny cooking mishaps. I don’t have many of those these days, but in the beginning there were some laughs.

How about you? Did you have any crazy cooking mishaps when you were learning to cook? Can you remember the first meal you attempted to make? Was it a success or a joke? Link up and share your story as you travel back to your cooking mishap.

The funniest cooking mishap that I can remember happened before Matt and I were married. He was at my parents house and I decided to make gravy. I don’t think I had ever made gravy before. I knew the ingredients from watching mom make it, but not the amounts. So, I’m feeling pretty confident as I add my flour to the pan and then some milk… until I pour it into a bowl. It came out like a jello mold. In one piece. We both got a good laugh out of that gravy and I’m happy to report I can now make gravy! One of my oldest friends, Mendy, has had the best cooking mishaps of anyone I can think of. She doesn’t blog, and really doesn’t even visit blogs… but she is hilarious and her mistakes were always the hit of the party. She asked for my lemon chicken recipe to make her family when she was still living at home. The key to that recipe is the touch of brown sugar at the end to cut the sour lemon juice. Of course Mendy forgot the brown sugar and her family puckered as they tried to eat the meal. Mendy made fudge for a get together we had and we all enjoyed eating it, with a spoon!

bodystockings

Apr-22-2008 By mylifeasannie

What are bodystockings you ask? Bodystockings are snug fitting hosiery that offers coverage from the neck or upper body down to the ankles or toes. I can’t imagine why someone would want a bodystocking, but apparently they do because there seems to be a wide variety of them to choose from. I rarely wear stockings or hose at all anymore, except occasionally on Sunday if I think they will look good with what I’m wearing… or cover my un-tan legs!

yikes!

cape town

Apr-22-2008 By mylifeasannie

If I visited South Africa, first I would visit my bloggy friend Marcia, and then I would visit Table Mountain. Cape Town’s most well known and well loved landmark. Its flat “table top” stretches for three kilometres and is flanked by Devil’s Peak on one side and Lion’s Head on the other. When a South Easterly wind blows the top is obscured by a large white tablecloth of cloud that pours over the steep northern face. The Table Mountain reserve is home to an impressive diversity of indigenous flora, including many endemic species. The mountain is a treat. Where would you go if you were taking Flights to Cape Town? Are there any places in South Africa you would love to see?

menu… because it’s Monday!

I’m still doing really well on the “diet.”  I can actually tell by my clothes now that I have lost weight.  When you are over six feet tall it takes more than five pounds to show … which is an advantage in some regards I guess.  I wore a suit to church yesterday I bought for Easter Sunday.  I actually bought two outfits, one that was really too tight… being optimistic and then one that was more comfortable.  I wore the comfortable one.  But yesterday was able to wear the one that was too tight and it wasn’t.   I always come to church after class with Iz.  I walked in to sit with Matt and Amanda was sitting with Lorenzo, she called me over to tell me I looked nice.  Then Matt told me I looked like a million bucks.  He doesn’t always notice my clothing, so it was a nice compliment.  We had a laugh driving home when he asked how much weight I had lost, he went on to tell me my >>>rear end<<< looked smaller and said I must have lost it all there!  I LOL’d.   Hopefully it will keep coming off and I’ll be ready for Summer!

We drove to Harrah for gyros after church.  I always take all the meat off mine except for one little piece and Matt piles it all on his.  I think of Jack Sprat when this happens :)…  For dinner I threw in some baked potatoes while I went to church and then came home and made everyone else burgers.  I love baked potatoes!  Especially the yukon gold potatoes, they are so buttery.

Tonight I plan to make Amanda’s favorite, fettuccine alfredo.    Not exactly on my diet, but it’s yummy so I’ll just have a little.

Tuesday we’ll have chicken spaghetti in the crockpot with garlic bread, salad and veggies.

Wednesday … subs

Thursday we’ll have tacos…

and Friday we’ll most likely order pizza in.

Sounds like a plan huh?  Have a great Monday!

THE TRIVITA SUBLINGUAL DIFFERENCE

“Sublingual” means “under the tongue.” You simply place a TriVita Sublingual B-12, B-6 & Folic Acid tablet under your tongue and allow it to dissolve completely. TriVita’s original patented Sublingual B-12, B-6 & Folic Acid was specially formulated to speed these essential B vitamins directly into your bloodstream!

fettucine

Apr-21-2008 By mylifeasannie

This is how I make fettucine alfredo…

I take 1 stick of butter and melt, adding pressed garlic, artichoke hearts, mushrooms and sun dried tomatoes.

I add heavy cream and parm cheese to mixture.

Let the cheese melt and I serve it over whole wheat linguine.

Yum.
