time travel tuesday ~ 2013

Jan-15-2008 By mylifeasannie

Let’s travel forward this time! Where do you see yourself in five years? Will you be living where you live now? What’s going on in your life five years from now???

I went with Amanda to a job orientation banquet at Spencer’s BBQ last night. (Don’t worry, I saved my points all day so I wouldn’t go over) …. anyway, got home and remembered ttt. I asked out loud to myself where we should travel and Amanda said, “the future.” I decided I was only comfortable to go five years forward today :o)!

When I think of the future, my first thought is the list of how old the kids will be (am I not the only one who chronicles time by my kid’s ages?)… so it will be 22, 18, 14, and 10!!! WOW. I will have finished up my degree in marriage and family counseling that has been on hold since Izzy’s accident and will be almost finished with my first book which is titled, “Drowning in Faith.”

Don’t forget to sign mr. linky!

takkle

Jan-15-2008 By mylifeasannie

Have you ever heard of Takkle? It’s kind of like myspace or facebook, but it’s geared toward High School Sports… like High School Football or High School Basketball. It’s easy to join and you can set up a profile page with a picture and everything.

TAKKLE is the social network for high school sports. It’s a place developed to help high school athletes succeed. Athletes can use TAKKLE to check in with their favorite groups, check heir practice schedule, and post their best photos/videos.

TAKKLE has been designed to make coaches’ lives easier. The site provides tools to organize game and practice schedules; communicate efficiently and confidentially with team members; scout teams and players for up-coming games; and help players connect with college coaches in a way never seen before.

Great coaches need great athletes. Finding them has always been the trick - and now, instead of scanning box scores in local newspapers from Princeton to Portland, TAKKLE will be the most valuable resource for college recruiters. TAKKLE will offer full access to complete game statis-tics, as well as photos and videos for hundreds of thousands of individual athletes and teams from across from the country.

And finally there is a home for fans, friends, and parents of high school athletes across the country. TAKKLE will allow fans to track the progress of their favorite players and teams, receive up-dates on stats and games, check profiles of players, view videos and photos that have been up-loaded from recent games, post comments, and add ratings.

As the deer panteth for the water
So my soul longeth after Thee
You alone are my heart’s desire
And I long to worship Thee

(Chorus)
You alone are my strength, my shield
To You alone may my spirit yield
You alone are my heart’s desire
And I long to worship Thee

You’re my friend and You are my brother
Even though You are a king
I love You more than any other
So much more than anything

Chorus

I want You more than gold or silver
Only You can satisfy
You alone are the real joy giver
And the apple of my eye

teen drivers

Jan-15-2008 By mylifeasannie

Having a teen driver is an interesting experience, one that I am living for the first time as a parent. Reliable transportation is key, especially I believe for a young pretty girl. I don’t want her in an unknown place having car issues. Just picking Amanda up from high school for almost two years has taught me that teenagers drive very carelessly. Add to that that car wrecks are the leading cause of teenage deaths! Not only are motor vehicle crashes responsible for Teen Driving fatalities, they are also responsible for many serious injuries. Sixteen-year-old drivers are more likely to crash than drivers are at any other age and they are three times more likely to die in a motor vehicle crash than drivers of any other age. 2005 was a good year for teen driving in the United States as fatalities involving teen drivers dropped 6.5% from 7,979 in 1995 to record the lowest level in ten years. Over seven thousand teen driving fatalities are too many. Another way to view that statistic is by personalizing it. Over seven thousand parents have lost children unnecessarily and more than seven thousand lives were not fully lived.

Armed with the data from your Personal Mechanic, you will be able to have a different conversation with your child about their teen driving habits. You will be able to identify how they really drive when they think that no one is watching. If they sped or over-revved the engine, you will know about it and be able to discuss it with them. The fact is that the initial driving years are a learning experience and can be quite positive for their development given appropriate direction and supervision. Discussing teen driving does not need to devolve into a shouting match. While the first time might be confrontational, the next time is likely to go much more smoothly. As your child starts developing better driving practices, tell them about it.

I’ve been asked to be a “guest star contributor” on Christian Women Online. My date is set for March 26. I guess that gives me enough time to come up with something interesting. I hope so anyway. I was really honored that they thought of me and hope I can write something that will provide hope for someone out there. I’ll be praying about it until then.

baby slings

Jan-15-2008 By mylifeasannie

A baby sling is a great way to carry around your baby and still have your hands free to “multi-task!”

Slinglings are stylish, comfortable pouch style baby slings. Pouch slings are suitable for babies from birth to approximately 35 lbs. Baby carriers are made out of a variety of fun stretch cotton fabrics.

There are many other types of carriers with bulky padding, ties, rings and buckles, and others that require elaborate wrapping…sometimes the simplest idea is the best!
