faith lift fridays ~ resolutions?

Jan-4-2008 By mylifeasannie

Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.”
Proverbs 4:26

The end of the old year and the beginning of a new one is a great time to take inventory of what has happened in your life and plan for what’s ahead. Some people don’t think it’s good to look back and they certainly don’t think it is good to make New Year’s resolutions. But this passage of scripture tells us to “ponder the path of thy feet.”

Ponder means “to weigh mentally.” You can’t weigh something unless you have something to weigh it against. If you don’t have any goals, there’s no way to evaluate whether or not you’re making progress. We all need something to shoot at. Otherwise, we’ll shoot at nothing and hit everytime.

There are dangers associated with setting goals and making resolutions. If we stretch ourselves too far we are destined to fail. This just adds to our sense of guilt and frustration. The Bible advocates vision and goal setting, but we need to exercise wisdom. We shouldn’t set goals arbitrarily, independent of God. Establishing goals contrary to His will just absorbs all our time and keeps us from Him.

It’s beneficial to look back and remember the good and learn from the bad. In order to plow a straight row, we must fix our eyes on a point far out in front of us. Use this time to see if your life is going in the direction the Lord wants it to. If it’s not, then there needs to be some changes. It’s foolish to keep doing the same things expecting different results. Ponder the path of your feet today, and take appropriate steps!

Here are some of the goals I’ve been contemplating all week…

1. Spend more time in God’s word. His word is food for my soul. I need to put my spiritual nutrition far above anything else.
2. Get in shape… either join the gym, walk while Izzy is in school, eat healthier, less coke…
3. Take more pictures! I get so busy I forget… but they really do record life!
4. Pray more. Prayer is one of my first and favorite things to do, but I think more is always better in this area!
5. Rest in God’s promises and let go of trying to control things.
6. Make my bed first thing every morning.
7. Drink more water (blech)!

I could go on and on about how I want to be a better mother, wife, friend, and daughter but you get the idea (:

Appetizer
When was the last time you received a surprise in the mail, and what was it?

I love surprise mail! The last was a package from the Philippines from Zenaida. She sent a neat wooden bookmark and other goodies! It was fun to get and a surprise. Before that was a awesome believe flag from Irene and believe ornaments (signs) from Amanda! Am I blessed or what?

Soup
If you could have a summer and/or winter home, where would you want it to be?

I’d love to have a summer cabin/home at the lake someday! We’ve visited other’s before and it is such a wonderful retreat from life.

Salad
Pick one: pineapple, orange, banana, apple, cherry.

cherry. I hate fruit. So I’m thinking artificial cherry.

Main Course
Describe the nicest piece of clothing that you own.

Yikes. clothing? Maybe my coat? lol. My purse is the nicest (most expensive) but not sure it counts as clothing!

Dessert
If you could forget one whole day from your life, which day would you choose to wipe from your memory?

The day Izzy drown.

digital cameras

Jan-4-2008 By mylifeasannie

I love my digital camera! Well, that is when Amanda doesn’t have it! She does have a digital camera too and I’m not sure why she is not using it (hopefully she hasn’t lost it). It amuses me to load the pictures onto the computer when she has had my camera for a while. She takes a lot of self portraits and self portraits of her with her boyfriend. They both have great smiles and pretty much look the same.

I think the thing I love best about digital cameras is that you can take as many pictures as you want without the worry of running out of film. I also like the immediate ability to view those pictures. It makes photo card making a snap. I usually do a picture of the four kids for our holiday greeting card, but this year with our power outage and ice storm it just didn’t happen. I planned to follow up with a New Year’s photo card, but that didn’t exactly happen either. Who knows, maybe I’ll get it done by Valentine’s Day… or a nice Easter photo card sounds nice too, huh?

I think I am going to ask for a nice pink digital camera for my birthday next year with more megapixels. I like the smaller models, because they are more portable. But I also like this one, because it takes great shots!

Marshalls….

Jan-4-2008 By mylifeasannie

I went to Kohls and Target yesterday looking for a new mirror or something for above the den computer cabinet. I couldn’t find anything! I finally went to Marshalls and found a really nice mirror with a thick chunky wood frame on sale for $16.00! The mirrors at the other stores were over $50 and not nearly as nice. I then saw valentine’s day tablecloths and placemats while I was checking out! It was a good day at marshalls. I think it’s my new favorite store.
