faith lift fridays ~ One day I decided to quit!

Friday, August 24th, 2007

One day I decided to QUIT…

I quit my job, my relationship, my spirituality…
I wanted to quit my life.
I went to the woods to have one last talk with God.
“God,” I asked, “Can you give me one good reason not to quit?”
His answer surprised me…

“Look around,” He said. “Do you see the fern and the bamboo?”
“Yes,” I replied.
“When I planted the fern and the bamboo seeds, I took very good care of them.
I gave them light. I gave them water.
The fern quickly grew from the earth.
Its brilliant green covered the floor.
Yet nothing came from the bamboo seed.
But I did not quit on the bamboo.

In the second year the fern grew more vibrant and plentiful.
And again, nothing came from the bamboo seed.
But I did not quit on the bamboo, He said.
“In year three there was still nothing from the bamboo seed.
But I would not quit.

In year four, again, there was nothing from the bamboo seed.
I would not quit.” He said.

“Then in the fifth year a tiny sprout emerged from the earth.
Compared to the fern, it was seemingly small and insignificant…
But just 6 months later, the bamboo rose to over 100 feet tall
It had spent the five years growing roots.
Those roots made it strong and gave it what it needed to survive.
I would not give any of my creations a challenge it could not handle.”

He asked me. “Did you know, my child, that all this time you have been struggling,
you have actually been growing roots.”
“I would not quit on the bamboo.
I will never quit on you.”
“Don’t compare yourself to others.”
He said,
“The bamboo had a different purpose than the fern.
Yet they both make the forest beautiful.”
“Your time will come.” God said to me.
“You will rise high”
“How high should I rise?” I asked.
“How high will the bamboo rise?”
He asked in return.
“As high as it can?” I questioned.
“Yes.” He said, “Give me glory by rising as high as you can.”
I left the forest and brought back this story.
I hope these words can help you see that God will never give up on you.
Never, Never, Never give up.

Appetizer
Say there’s a book written about your life. Who would you want to narrate the audio version?

Me. Hopefully I will be the author, so I would be the obvious choice to narrate.

Soup
Take the letters from your favorite kind of nut and write a sentence. (Example: Perhaps every avenue needs understanding today.)

Can Annie share happy exciting words?

Salad
If you could go back in time and spend one week in another decade, which decade would you choose?

Probably the 80’s. My new big hair would fit in great!

Main Course
Name a song that brings back memories for you.

“Slip slide and away” used to play when the news rolled the school closings. I loved that song! Especially when my school rolled by!

Dessert
Do you prefer to wash your hands in cold water or warm water?

Warm. Any added germ killer is welcome!!!

Emelia started playing softball last night. The coach called and asked if she could play on their team (the sooners) and I took her to practice to see if she liked it, she has never played softball… only basketball. Anyway, she was a natural. She batted really well from the beginning and could throw the ball very far. They are talking about using her at first base when she gets the feel for the game. I have to spend the weekend finding specific shoes, glove, bat, balls, helmet with face mask etc.

Haley is having a contest over at her blog and I keep forgetting to link to it! So, visit haley and sign up to win some really cool avon products! Well, I just popped over to check my link and Haley has had her baby early! Five weeks early! That’s exciting huh?

Thank you everyone for your sweet comments about my hair. I hate it now by the way, but it’s okay… it’s only hair and it will work out. I think when Matt compared my hair to Harpo Marx, whoever that is, I knew it wasn’t good…

(I was taking the camera to school so they could capture pics of Izzy in pre-k… ) and I am not looking into the camera because I was keeping my eye on the cars in front of me. You know how much I hate seeing pics of myself, ick!

a tag ~ a meme!

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

Karen has tagged me for a fun meme! Here we go!

Accent – I don’t think I have one. I took a voice and articulation class in college and really tried to erase some of my okie slang, it creeps back from time to time but I don’t think I have any type of accent.

I don’t drink – milk, blech! I literally strain my cereal to eat it too. Just can’t stand thinking about the origin etc. blech again.

Chore I hate – mopping. Enough said.

Pets – Too many. Well, there’s Lady (white dog) and Rosa (black dog) and a bunch of bunnies and some outside cats who peek in the french doors in the kitchen every morning begging me for food or waiting for my leftover milk from my cereal… and Matt has goats! I don’t claim them.

Essential Electronics – My laptop, digital camera & cellphone.

Perfume – Laugh by Brighton is my favorite perfume! I also like Sung by Alfred Sung and Lovely by Sarah Jessica Parker.

Gold or silver – Silver. My wedding band is gold and is an heirloom, it was Matt’s great grandmother’s. She died in the 1919 flu epidemic. It is a wide gold band with a solitare and inside it has her initials along with her husbands. We added ours when we married. I requested a white gold anniversary band with a diamond for each child for my 15th anniversary, but we unexpectedly ended up spending that one with Iz in the hospital right after her accident so maybe for my 20th ???

Insomnia – NEVER. My head hits the pillow and I am instantly sleeping. It’s all I can do to stay awake while we pray in bed. Sometimes when Matt squeezes my hand for my turn I have drifted off and quickly just start praying (ssh, don’t tell him).

Job Title – Mom, chef, secretary, gardener, chauffeur, nurse.

Most Admired Trait – I love people who are real. Just who they are and that’s that. Make sense?

Kids – four!

Phobia – I wouldn’t claim it as a ‘phobia,’ but I really despise germs and all things nasty. Really!

Religion – Well, Christian and believer.

Siblings – Two brothers.

Time I wake up – between five and six thirty.

Unusual talent/skill – I can cut, french braid, and color hair, that’s only unusual because I am self taught…

Vegetable I refuse to eat – brussel sprouts & beets

Worst habit – drinking coke when I know I shouldn’t.

X-rays – My arm in junior high when I fell on it trying to do a handspring, teeth…

My favorite meal – well either Mom’s chicken schnitzel or glazed ham… or the pasta John (Matt’s mom’s husband) makes for my birthday that has penne and artichokes, sun dried tomatoes, pine nuts, and lots of good stuff… I love food, can you tell?

I tag you!!!

Two quick things…

1. Yes, I kept nursing Amanda. I pumped on the bad side until it was healed enough to use it :o) again… I was lopsided the whole time.

2. I am getting my hair cut tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. Wish me luck. YIKES. Why am I worried?

Okay, that’s all.

time travel tuesday ~ 21 years old edition!

Tuesday, August 21st, 2007

You’re 21.
What’s going on in your life?
Who are you spending most of your time with?
What’s favorite things to do? eat? hobby?

(for those of you lauren not yet 21, you could tell us what you plan to be doing at 21!)

I don’t know why I chose 21. I have been trying to remember something really interesting about that year and well, there wasn’t much but I’ll try to remember what I can…

Matt and I celebrated our first anniversary and also Amanda was born about a week before I turned 21. I was nursing her. This wasn’t really popular in 1990. Not in Oklahoma anyway. So, the nurse suggested I put this lanolin cream on my *nip* (don’t want google searches to bring people here for that word ;o) Anyway, I did as told and Amanda nursed. After a few days of this I noticed one was very very sore. So sore in fact I would go into another room to nurse because I cried out loud while she latched on. It was bad. A few more days passed and I looked down and my ‘n’ was split in half. Yep, in half. I had red streaks going up and down my trunk and couldn’t move my left arm well. I had a high fever and very hot chest. Matt was young. I was young. This is probably around the date of my birthday. Mom keeps Amanda while Matt drives me to the doctor. I am sitting in the exam room. Alone. No shirt on. Dripping. The dr. comes in and looks, gasps, leaves. Comes back with a band of doctors and nurses, they all look, gasp, leave. The doctor comes back and writes a Rx telling me it looks worse than any breast infection he has ever seen. I have tears coming out of my eyes constantly, not crying. Just tears. I was sick. The most memorable thing about that day was Matt insisting we stop to test drive a car. I had a pontiac firebird with t-tops. We decided it wasn’t practical for baby. But I somehow didn’t think this was the day to shop. We did. I was mad for a month about it. That and him wanting me to cook breakfast the next morning! I did. We’ve come a long way, thank you Jesus.

I was spending most of my time with my family, Matt and Amanda… Mom and Dad…. my friends were Melody, Mendy and Rachael. Melody had just had Megan a few months before so we did zoo trips and stuff with the girls. I remember driving home from meeting Melody and Megan at the mall, we had eaten at El chicos and bought the girls suckers. On the way home Amanda got that sucker broken off and stuck in her throat. She was turning purple. I pulled off the road (kept my foot on the brake Julie/she gets annoyed that I rarely switch to park) and then whipped her out of her carseat, threw her head out of my car door, did a few professional pounds on her back, the sucker flew on the highway, I flipped her back in her carseat and off we went. My foot remained on the brake the entire time.

My favorite foods were meatless spaghetti which I made often, I would saute garlic and onions in olive oil, add tons of fresh sliced mushrooms, then prego spaghetti sauce and my “spaghetti seasonings” served over angel hair pasta. It was always yummy! Matt tried to make it for me once right after Amanda was born. He did a good job but I couldn’t figure out why it was gritty. Turns out he didn’t know to clean the mushrooms… ick. He pretty much hasn’t cooked since then… pretty much. My favorite hobbies at that time were reading and cross-stitching. I read those silly romance novels and also books on the best seller list… and cross stitched for fun.

bloggy goodness~

Look at those sweet bracelets! Aren’t they adorable? During the July bloggy giveaway Kim at Hind’s Feet was offering a bracelet as her drawing prize. I entered. I didn’t win. She later emailed me and said she would like to make Izzy a bracelet (isn’t that sweet?). She and her daughters shopped together for ‘cheerful’ beads to make the perfect bracelet for Iz. Well, if you look at the picture you will notice there is a pretty bracelet on my wrist as well! She sent one for me! Thank you Kim, I love them both. Izzy wore hers to school today (the mail came right before we left for school) and it looks so cute on her little wrist!

Look what else was in today’s mail! Thanks Kayelyn!
And a new magazine!!!

My menu was all messed up last week, so a lot of mine looks like repeats although it isn’t. . .

Yesterday I made late breakfast/lunch … peppered bacon, gravy, biscuits and cheese eggs (our cholesterol intake for the week has been achieved). We ordered chinese food for dinner and it was so yummy. We had it leftover after church today for lunch. I made grilled cheese & tomato soup before we went to evening services.

Monday

Baked ham with pineapple brown sugar glaze
scalloped potatoes
broccoli

Tuesday
slow cooked beans with leftover ham
cornbread
oven fried potatoes

Wednesday
bean burritos with leftover beans

corn

Thursday
Frito chili pie (with leftover beans)

Friday
Hot dogs with leftover chili
(I only use beef kosher wieners… I’m a wiener snob :o)

That’s all the food talk I’ve got in me tonight… Have a great Monday and visit Laura at Org. Junkie to sign up and participate in MPM!
